LAWYERS AS CONTRACT MANAGERS -
WHAT DO THEY DO?
A breakfast seminar for in-house lawyers, project managers, CFOs, CEOs and others working with large industrial or construction projects
A contract is the basis for any large industrial project. It lays out the rules, timeline and scope. A lot of resources are put into contract negotiations and processes are followed for risk management. Still, the contract is often forgotten during execution, resulting in unnecessary disputes after the project is finished. A lawyer as a contract manager can assist the project during execution by making sure that the project is executed in the most favorable way. For instance, a contract manager makes sure that change orders are done correctly, deadlines are followed and notifications of hindrance are sent. Without a contact manager, you may end up doing change works without adequate payment or sending an incorrect notification of hinderance that loses its intended impact.
In Norway, Negota’s lawyers often act as contract managers in projects worth more than 100 million NOK. We have found that the investment into a lawyer as a contract manager can make our customer’s projects significantly more profitable, simply by using the contract as it was a agreed between the parties.
During the seminar, Negota’s founder, Pål Are Sund, will share some of his experiences of contract management from the past 20 years. Negota Finland’s managing partner Dina Stolt will give a presentation of Negota’s services in Finland in addition to contract management.
